It’s Nacho Average homestand for the Albuquerque Isotopes.

The Colorado Rockies’ Triple-A franchise on Wednesday hyped several promotions planned for next week’s six-game home series beginning Tuesday and going through Sunday, Aug. 24. Among the treats for fans are Nacho Average Wednesday, American Sign Language Night, City Roots and Sesame Street Day.

“We have 18 home games left,” Isotopes General Manager Joe Traub reminded attendees at Wednesday’s news conference.

This week, the Isotopes (46-68 going into Wednesday’s game) are in Oklahoma City. They’ll return to Albuquerque for a series against the Las Vegas Aviators and will be hungry to enter the stretch run of the season on a positive note.

Good thing the themed nights kick off with Nacho Average Wednesday, which will introduce three new nachos to Isotopes Park, including:

• Fiesta Nachos (available at Batters Up near section 108): Crispy yellow corn chips topped with chicken and beef taquitos with queso bravo cheese, guacamole, shredded yellow cheese, and pico de gallo.

• Philly Nachos (available at the Green Chile Philly Cart section 102): Yellow corn chips loaded with Philly-style beef, queso bravo white cheese, sautéed onions, peppers and green chile.

• Southwest Corn Nachos (available at Pecos River near section 116): Red and blue corn chips with calabacitas, nacho cheese sauce, and tomatillo salsa.

“We really wanted to make sure that we were introducing some of the flavors that we have differently in the nachos,” said Isotopes Executive Chef Jim Griego, who is in his fourth season with the team.

Next up, ASL Night will take place on Friday, Aug. 22

“It’s going to be a totally immersive night when it comes to having folks in the deaf community be in the ballpark,” Traub said. “But also giving our fans the opportunity to experience an Isotopes game from the perspective of somebody who is deaf or hard of hearing.”

ASL Night will include a silent sixth inning — no announcements over the public-address system or music.

“It’s just going to be a baseball game with the natural sound of the crowd, but from a fan who’s deaf or hard of hearing, that’s how they experience it all the time.” Traub said. “So, as a way to hopefully give all of us a perspective that we’ve never really experienced before.”

Saturday, Aug. 23, will feature a City Roots game where players don alternate “Duke City” jerseys and 505 hats to pay homage to Albuquerque.

Albuquerque Isotopes General Manager John Traub, left, introduces singer-songwriter Al Hurricane Jr. during a news conference Wednesday. Hurricane will be performing at Isotopes Park on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Before the game, Isotopes Park will host a concert featuring Al Hurricane Jr., who said he feels honored to be performing at the City Roots game.

“This is our roots,” he said. “This is our heritage.”

Hurricane Jr. is known as the “El Godson” of New Mexican music. His father, Al Hurricane Sr., is “The Godfather” of the genre.

Hurricane said he hopes to one day have a bobblehead, like his father.

“I see the effects my father had, and all I can hope to be is what my father was,” Hurricane said. “The roots and just everything can give it to the people. Without the people, we are nothing.”

The week of promotions ends with Sesame Street Day on Sunday, Aug. 24. Rally towels featuring Big Bird and friends with the statement “Teamwork makes the dream work” will be given away to the first 500 fans.
