It will be Cleveland and Volcano Vista in a District 1-5A boys basketball playoff.

Third-ranked Cleveland topped No. 1 Rio Rancho 86-80 in double overtime on Thursday night at Cleveland, and the Storm (22-4, 8-2) tied Volcano Vista (20-5, 8-2) for the regular-season title in 1-5A.

The Hawks blasted Cibola 79-40 on Thursday.

Volcano Vista and Cleveland will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Cibola; the winner becomes the No. 1 seed for the 1-5A tournament. The loser will be the No. 2 seed.

By virtue of Rio Rancho’s loss, the Rams are the 3 seed for the 1-5A tournament.

The regular season for the entire state ends on Saturday.

DYER: Also Thursday night, La Cueva High senior guard Jordyn Dyer reached the magical 2,000-point mark in her terrific career with the Bears.

She needed 18 points coming into Thursday, but finished with 22 as La Cueva closed its regular season with a victory over Manzano.
