Bosque School coach Davidson fired Wednesday
He led the Bobcats to a boys state basketball championship in 2020
Clifton Davidson, who coached the Bosque School boys basketball team to a state championship in 2020, was fired on Wednesday.
Davidson confirmed this in an interview with the Journal.
“I won’t go into any specific details, because I’m gonna check what my options are,” he said. “I will say that I was called into a meeting and informed that I was going to be terminated, essentially because of some allegations from my parents.”
Davidson declined to elaborate.
Davidson became the Bobcats’ head coach in 2017, and has enjoyed a solid career on the West Side, including that aforementioned title which Bosque won in an empty Pit during the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Bosque School, a Class 3A program, is 15-9 this season.
“Huge shock, especially with the season that we’ve had,” Davidson said.
A coach firing at this stage of a season is extremely unusual. The Bobcats had only two games remaining in their regular season, and they’ll be part of the upcoming Class 3A state tournament which starts for the boys on March 7.
Gerard Garcia and other Bosque School assistant coaches have agreed to stay on and finish the season, Davidson said. “I encouraged them to do that,” he added.
Jeaney Garcia, Bosque’s athletic director, has been out of state dealing with personal matters. She was reached Wednesday at the Kansas City airport as she prepared to return to Albuquerque.
“The administration let him go without letting me know or the acting AD know,” she said. “I was in no way a part of this decision. And I’m absolutely shocked and very upset.”
