Corley sisters headed back to New York after receiving wild card entry into U.S. Open
Sisters Ivana Corley, left, and Carmen Corley display their trophies after their doubles victory July 13 in Newport, Rhode Island. It was their first win on the WTA Tour.
Welcome back to New York, Carmen and Ivana Corley.
The former Eldorado High state champions, who made their grand slam debut at the 2024 U.S. Open in New York, on Tuesday learned that they had received a wild card entry into the 2025 U.S. Open.
The sisters, who earlier this summer won a pair of WTA events — one in Rhode Island, and then another the following week in Portugal — face a daunting first-round assignment.
They will play the combo of Asia Muhammad of the United States (ranked No 17 in the world in doubles) and Demi Schuurs of The Netherlands, who is ranked No. 19.
Carmen Corley is ranked No 90 in the world on the WTA doubles rankings list. Ivana, the eldest of the Corley sisters, is ranked No. 127.
It was not immediately known what day or time the Corleys would be on the court for that match. It'll be played Thursday or Friday.
The Corleys also received a wild card invite into last year’s Open, and even won their first-rounder before being eliminated in the Round of 32.
They will enter this year’s tournament in good form. Last week, at the Tennis in the Land WTA-250 level event in Cleveland, they reached the quarterfinals, losing to the No. 1 seed, including 10-8 in the decisive third set.
They have had unprecedented success on the court over the last couple of months.
On July 13, they combined to win the Hall of Fame Open (on grass) in Newport, Rhode Island. They hopped on a plane that night for Europe, and won the hardcourt Eupago Porto Open in Porto, Portugal, the following week. Those were their first two WTA-level victories since turning professional.
