Tajavis Miller, a guard from North Dakota State has announced he will be transferring to play for the UNM Lobos and new coach Eric Olen.

The 6-foot-4 senior was the Summit League Sixth Man of the Year this past season and has one year of eligibility.

The Journal sent Miller some questions to give Lobo fans a better idea of the player heading to Albuquerque to play in the 2025-26 season:

JOURNAL: What made UNM and playing for Eric Olen the right fit for you?

MILLER: Coach Olen really believed in me from the start, and I could tell he had a clear vision for how I’d fit into the program. UNM has a strong basketball tradition, and I wanted to be part of something with high expectations and a passionate fan base.

JOURNAL: Did you know much about UNM or the Pit before visiting here and being recruiting by the Lobos?

MILLER: I didn’t know much about New Mexico, but I have played in the Pit before and the energy is crazy. Even on weekend games the fans all came out and it was packed.

NOTE: North Dakota State was one of three teams to join UNM in the 2022 Lobo Invitational tournament in the Pit. Miller started the Nov. 26, 2022, game against UNM as a true freshman, scoring six points.

JOURNAL: What type of player are Lobo fans going to see on the court?

MILLER: I’m a high-motor guy who competes hard every possession. I like to make winning plays — whether that’s scoring, defending, rebounding, or diving for a loose ball. I take pride in doing the little things that help the team win.

JOURNAL: Is there a player you think your game is similar to?

MILLER: I’d say my game has some similarities to someone like Jrue Holiday. He’s versatile, tough, defends multiple positions, and finds ways to impact the game in different areas. That’s the kind of well-rounded player I aim to be.

JOURNAL: Your mom was a star pitcher in the Big Ten in college and now coaches college softball. Can you hit a pitch off your mom?

MILLER: Haha, she’s got some heat, not gonna lie! I might be able to connect if she’s being nice, but if she’s bringing her A-game? Let’s just say I might have better luck sticking to basketball.
