Ice Wolves: The 2025-26 season begins Friday

The New Mexico Ice Wolves kick off the 2025-26 season this Friday at the Outpost Ice Arenas against the Amarillo Wranglers.

LAST SEASON: The Ice Wolves finished 33-24-5-3 in fourth place of the North American Hockey League’s South Division last season.

The team had two players commit to play NCAA Division I hockey, four to NCAA Division III, and one sign with a professional team in Austria.

“The roster is stacked with returners who are familiar with the grit of the division and ready to welcome in the rookies,” the team said in a news release.

GAME DETAILS: The Ice Wolves open the season with a three-game series against Amarillo. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12. Games start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

Friday night features a mini stick and magnet schedule giveaway.

Saturday is $1 hot dog night.

Sunday will host a surprise drawing and player meet-and-greet following the game.

TEAM DETAILS: On Thursday, the Ice Wolves announced Sean Gibbons as team captain for the 2025-26 season. Gibbons is also committed to NCAA Division I United States Military Academy

Additionally, the team named Stanley Hubbard and Sean Smith as the alternate captains.

The Ice Wolves played a two-game preseason, going 1-1 in those games.
