For the second Tuesday in a row, Albuquerque has minted a new UFC fighter.

Heavyweight Josh Hokit, a former Fresno State fullback who now trains as a MMA fighter at Albuquerque’s Jackson Wink, defeated Brazil’s Ghuilherme Uriel by second-round TKO on Dana White’s Tuesday Contender Series.

At the end of Tuesday’s show, streamed on espn+, White awarded Hokit a UFC contract.

“I’ve been chewed up and spit out and I continue to find a way,” Hokit said in an interview after being told he’d earned a UFC contract. “And I will find a way to that UFC gold. Mark my words.”

Hokit (6-0) joins Albuquerque welterweight Ty Miller as a new UFC contract fighter. White awarded Miller (6-0) a contract on Aug. 12 after his Contender Series victory by unanimous decision over New York’s Jimmy Drago.

A native of Clovis, California, Hokit’s not a complete stranger to New Mexico sports fans. He rushed for 70 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown during Fresno State’s 38-0 victory over UNM in Fresno in 2017.
