Albuquerque’s Jon “Bones” Jones will defend his recently won UFC heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic on Nov. 11 in New York, UFC President Dana White announced on Friday.

The fight will headline UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden.

Jones (27-1), the former UFC light heavyweight champion and widely considered the best MMA fighter in the word, won the then-vacant heavyweight belt with a victory by first-round submission (guillotine choke) over Cyril Gane on March 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Miocic (20-4), of Cleveland, held the UFC heavyweight title from September 2016-July 2018 before losing the belt to Daniel Cormier. Miocic regained the title by defeating Cormier in August 2019, then lost the belt to Francis N’Gannou in March 2021. Miocic has not fought since then.

N’Gannou was stripped of the title in January after he and White could not come to terms on a new contract, opening the way for the Jones-Gane title fight. N’Gannou then signed with the Professional Fighters League but has yet to fight on a PFL card.
