Popular Bob's Week 6 NFL Forecast: How will long flights affect teams?
This week five Western teams that flew across three time zones will be playing: the Cardinals, Rams, Chargers, Seahawks and 49ers.
But don't automatically disregard their chances in Week 6. Such long-distance travelers are 49-31-3 against the spread the past five seasons. That's an indication these teams are being undervalued.
Here's a look at the games:
THURSDAY
---> Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) at NY Giants (1-4), 6:15 p.m.
Eagles -8 (40 O/U)
Forecast: Eagles 23, Giants 13
Philadelphia is this season's first Thursday night road favorite, but the Eagles shouldn't be runaway victors since they rank 30th in total offense. As for NYG, the euphoria over its Week 4 victory against the LA Chargers evaporated with its loss to then-winless New Orleans.
SUNDAY
---> Denver Broncos (3-2) vs. NY Jets (0-5), 7:30 a.m., London
Broncos -7 (43.5 O/U)
Forecast: Broncos 26, Jets 23
The Broncos had the second-biggest fourth-quarter road comeback of the season last week (14 points) in subduing Philadelphia. Now they'll face the Jets, a team they defeated 10-9 last season with Bo Nix throwing for only 60 yards. It was the fewest air yards for any club the past two seasons.
---> Arizona Cardinals (2-3) at Indianapolis Colts (4-1), 11 a.m.
Colts -7 (47 O/U)
Forecast: Colts 34, Cardinals 17
Arizona's loss to Tennessee last Sunday was gruesome. It blew a late 21-6 lead and should have been ahead at least 27-6 if not for that knuckle-head goal-line fumble. Arizona is better than that, but not if QB Kyler Murray is ailing (questionable, foot).
---> LA Chargers (3-2) at Miami Dolphins (1-4), 11 a.m.
Chargers -4 (43 O/U)
Forecast: Chargers 21, Dolphins 13
This is LA's second coast-to-coast trip in three weeks and it'll again be without its top RBs. Miami is in worse shape, with only 19 rushing yards last week.
---> Cleveland Browns (1-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1), 11 a.m.
Steelers 5.5 (38 O/U)
Forecast: Browns 21, Steelers 20
Although Pittsburgh leads the division by 1.5 games over Cincinnati, it has been outgained in each of their games.
---> San Francisco 49ers (4-1) at Tampa Bay Bucs (4-1), 11 a.m.
Bucs -3 (47.5 O/U)
Forecast: Bucs 23, 49ers 17
49ers starting QB Brock Purdy could again sit out (turf toe). SF might not be inclined to rush him back since backup Mac Jones has led the team to three victories in three starts. His luck, however, runs out here.
---> Dallas Cowboys (2-2-1) at Carolina Panthers (2-3), 11 a.m.
Cowboys -3.5 (49.5 O/U)
Forecast: Panthers 26, Cowboys 24
Another ex-Cowboy gets ready to face the team that unloaded him before this season. RB Rico Dowdle had 206 yards for Carolina last week and now gets to run against Dallas' worst-ranked defense. On bright side for Dallas, WR CeeDee Lamb could return (high ankle sprain).
---> Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1), 11 a.m.
Jaguars -1 (47.5 O/U)
Forecast: Seahawks 27, Jaguars 21
Seattle could be catching Jacksonville flat after its victory vs. KC and on a short week.
---> LA Rams (3-2) at Baltimore Ravens (1-4), 11 a.m.
Rams -7.5 (44.5 O/U)
Forecast: Rams 35, Ravens 21
Last week Baltimore played without seven Pro Bowlers players, including QB Lamar Jackson. They might get back safety Kyle Hamilton and OLT Ronnie Stanley this week. Now Baltimore will be facing Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who has the most air yards in the league.
---> Tennessee Titans (1-4) at Las Vegas Raiders (1-4), 2:05 p.m.
Raiders -4.5 (41.5 O/U)
Forecast: Raiders 24, Titans 10
---> Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) at Green Bay Packers (2-1-1), 2:25 p.m.
Packers -14 (44.5 O/U)
Forecast: Packers 31, Bengals 13
Just-acquired QB Joe Flacco, the league's worst-rated passer, will start for the Cincinnati's worst-rated offense.
---> New England Patriots (3-2) at New Orleans Saints (1-4), 2:25 p.m.
Patriots -3.5 (46 O/U)
Forecast: Patriots 34, Saints 14
---> Detroit Lions (4-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-3), 6:20 p.m.
Chiefs -2.5 (53 O/U)
Forecast: Chiefs 30, Lions 23
The Lions might be vulnerable in the secondary with injuries to cornerbacks.
MONDAY
---> Buffalo Bills (4-1) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2), 5:15 p.m.
Bills -2 (50 O/U)
Forecast: Bills 28, Falcons 20
Buffalo finally covers after three straight ATS losses.
---> Chicago Bears (2-2) at Washington Commanders (3-2), 6:15 p.m.
Commanders -4.5 (49.5 O/U)
Forecast: Bears 23, Commanders 21
Chicago is off a bye after back-to-back wins against Dallas and Vegas. The Bears held the league's top offense (Dallas) to 14 points. The Cowboys average 34.2 in other games.
