Rio Rancho’s Charile Vause sprints to the finish line to win the Class 5A boys state cross country race on Nov. 11, 2023 at Albuquerque Academy. Vause claimed the individual state title with a time of 15:17.16 and Rio Rancho won both the boys and girls team titles.
Rio Rancho High School senior Charlie Vause is having himself an amazing week.
On Monday, the distance specialist signed to run collegiately at BYU. On Thursday, Vause was named the Gatorade cross country Player of the Year for the 2024 season.
Vause was the Nike Cross Nationals champion late last year in Portland, the first time a New Mexican had won that elite race. His winning time was 15 minutes, 28.1 seconds. He was third at the Nike Southwest Regionals in Arizona.
Vause also led the Rams to the Class 5A state team championship in November, and he placed second individually.
Vause was also the Gatorade recipient following the 2023 season.
