United's Ryden out after surgery

New Mexico United defender Kalen Ryden underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a broken clavicle and is expected return later this season.
Ryden, 34, was injured during United's 2-1 road loss to Lexington SC on Saturday. NMU coach Dennis Sanchez said the club's veteran co-captain's injury is likely to keep him out for four to eight weeks.
"We don't know the exact timeline," Sanchez said, "but things went well and Kalen's in good spirits. He's obviously a massive piece for us, but this is also an opportunity for other guys to step in and step up."
Ryden has been a defensive anchor for United this season, playing 1,005 minutes prior to his injury. United conceded six goals over that span and has conceded six goals over 197 minutes in his absence. Ryden joined New Mexico in 2020 and is the club's career leader in minutes played (11,786).
