UNM volleyball improves to 5-0

Gioia Riccato had 10 kills and Seenane Brewer made the most of her first start this season as the UNM volleyball team stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 sweep of Northwestern State on Friday.
The Lobos (5-0) won by set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-15 in round two of the Tarleton State Invitational in Stephenville, Texas. UNM edged the host team in five sets Friday night.
Brewer narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs before departing late in the third set with UNM comfortably ahead. Addison France chipped in eight kills for the Lobos, who dominated from the service line with eighth aces and just three errors, keeping Northwestern State (1-4) out of system throughout the match.
The Lobos were again short-handed, playing without injured starters Lauryn Payne, Naomi Chankoumi and Liepa Lavickyte. Chankoumi left Friday's match with an apparent leg injury.
UNM concludes the tournament with a 9 a.m. match Saturday against Prairie View A&M.
