New Mexico kicker Luke Drzewiecki was named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday via release.

The 6-foot, 186-pound senior made two field goals and four PATs in UNM’s 40-35 win over UNLV on Saturday, helping secure the Lobos’ first bowl berth since 2016. Both his field goal makes were longer than 40 yards, including a season-long 46-yard attempt in the second quarter to take a 10-point halftime lead.

“That built some momentum and just showed that we responded,” head coach Jason Eck said Saturday of how UNM closed the first half against the Rebels.

Drzewiecki is now 10-for-11 kicking field goals this season and a perfect 30-for-30 kicking PATs. He has the third best field goal percentage (90.9%) of all kickers in the Mountain West with the fifth most makes; a four-year starter, his 243 points scored is ranked third in program history.

San Jose State quarterback Walker Eget and Fresno State safety Simeon Harris were named the league’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Eget earned the honor after going 20 of 40 on pass completions, for 458 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-38 win at Hawaii. The 6-3, 223-pound senior leads the Mountain West with 2,607 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.

Harris made a season-high six solo tackles, forced one fumble and came down with an interception during Fresno State’s 30-7 win at Boise State. The 5-11, 185-pound redshirt junior is tied for second in the league with three interceptions.

OTHER HONORS: UNM quarterback Jack Layne was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s “Great 8” list after completing 17 of 22 passes for 342 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against UNLV.

The winner of the “Great 8” will be announced Tuesday afternoon.

Eck was also named CBS Sports’ Coach of the Week in the Mountain West. He previously earned the honor after leading UNM to a 35-10 win over UCLA on Sept. 12.

LOBO SOCCER: Two Lobo soccer players earned their first Mountain West postseason accolades on Monday as well.

Alejandra Puerto was named to the all-conference First Team and Nicole Anderson was named to the second team.
