Vote: High school football star of Week 1
Here's a look at the high school football players who filled the stat sheets in Week 1. Which player should be this week's star? Cast your vote below.
Jahari Morehead, jr., WR, Eldorado
Morehead was on fire on Friday against Organ Mountain. Within the first 75 seconds of the third quarter, Morehead had caught four touchdown passes, including plays covering 89 and 80 yards and finished with nine catches for 296 yards in just over two quarters.
Isaiah Carpenter, jr., QB, St. Pius
Carpenter possesses what might be the most potent right arm in New Mexico prep football. The 6-foot-5 quarterback had a field day Saturday, throwing for 397 yards and five touchdowns in a victory over West Mesa.
Bryce Parra, jr., RB, Artesia
The Bulldogs are famous for their passing game, but they almost always have a stellar running back in the fold, too. This year, that is Parra, who rushed for 196 yards and three scores in a win over Carlsbad, and he also managed to THROW a touchdown pass on a trick play.
Michael Storms III, sr., RB, Valencia
Storms doesn’t get as much publicity as he probably should, but he continues to be an extremely productive back for the Jaguars. In Friday’s opener at Kirtland Central, Storms rushed for 240 yards and four TDs.
Jay Lee, sr., WR/KR, Legacy Academy
Lee, a transfer from Socorro returned three punts for touchdowns in Saturday’s win over Laguna-Acoma. He also caught a touchdown pass.
Manual Chavarria, sr., QB, Bloomfield
In his debut as the Bobcats’ new quarterback, Chavarria was sensational. He made sure his teammates shared the wealth, throwing five touchdowns to five different receivers Friday as Bloomfield routed Belen.
Jordan Hatch, sr., QB, Cleveland
There may not be a more polished quarterback in 6A football than the 6-foot-4 Hatch, who threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns Saturday in a win over Centennial, and he also ran for a score.
