Here's a look at the high school football players who filled the stat sheets in Week 2. Which player should be this week's star? Cast your vote below.
Manual Chavarria, sr. QB, Bloomfield
Talk about efficiency: Chavarria completed only 10 passes, but they went for an average of 35 yards per completion. At the end of a huge win over Miyamura he had thrown for 350 yards and six touchdowns in a 59-18 victory.
Chalito Cano, jr., QB, Belen
Cano had his fingerprint all over an emotional 28-27 road victory over rival Valencia on Friday. He rushed for 117 yards and a TD, threw for two touchdowns, and scored two 2-point conversions, the second coming in the final minute that won the game.
Josiah Madrid, sr., QB, Silver
Madrid had a huge night Friday as the Colts went on the road and beat up on 5A Deming, 41-14. Madrid was 20-for-35 for 370 yards, and five touchdowns for 4A Silver.
Danny Amaro, sr., RB, Las Cruces
As long as Amaro keeps putting up monster games, he’ll continue to appear on this list. In an impressive 25-point win over a top-five team in Rio Rancho, Amaro combined for nearly 285 rushing and passing yards, and scored five touchdowns for the second-ranked Bulldawgs.
Elijah Melancon, sr., QB, Eunice
Melancon, one of the most underrated QBs in New Mexico, went off in a huge victory over New Mexico Military Institute. He completed 16 passes for a whopping 426 yards and six TDs in a 50-20 win over the Colts.
