This story will be updated throughout the weekend.
Thursday (Oct. 30)
---> Cleveland 49, Rio Rancho 14
The Cleveland Storm cocked its collective right arm, and delivered a heavy blow to Rio Rancho’s jaw at the start.
And then they landed another jolting punch.
Followed shortly thereafter by a third powerful shot.
Cleveland was up three touchdowns barely a quarter into this anticipated showdown, bludgeoned their rivals with ruthless efficiency, and barely let up.
Class 6A’s second-ranked Storm (9-1, 5-0 in 1-6A) authored a performance as sharp as any they’ve had all year on Thursday night, and their District 1-6A-championship-clinching 49-14 win at No. 5 Rio Rancho (6-4, 4-1) was most certainly an announcement by Cleveland — with a bullhorn — that the Storm is ready to head into November and make a strong defense of their 2024 state title.
---> Legacy Academy 6, Santa Rosa 0
In just its second of season of 11-Man football, Legacy Academy won the District 2-2A championship with a grind-it-out, 6-0 win Thursday over Santa Rosa at Bernalillo High School.
“We challenged the defense all week,” said Silverbacks coach Joey Romero. “We told them it was going to be an every-down, four-quarters game. And we can't let up and we have to earn every tackle, earn every play. And they did have a great week preparing, but mostly, they did a great job understanding how they had to show up. So I'm so proud of every single one of them.”
There was no bigger instance of them all showing up than midway through the third quarter when Class 2A's top-ranked Lions (8-2, 3-2) had a first and goal from the 9-yard-line. Three plays later, it was at the 1-yard-line. And the Legacy defense absolutely stuffed Santa Rosa quarterback David Chavez, denying the score on fourth down.
---> Belen 22, Capital 14
In Belen, the Eagles overcame five first-half turnovers and clinched second place in District 1-5A football with a victory over Capital.
The Eagles finished the regular season 6-4 overall and 5-2 in league. The Jaguars finished 4-6, 4-3.
Despite Belen’s early miscues, the Eagles trailed Capital only 7-0 at halftime. Late in the third quarter, Belen tied it up when Logan Gonzalez hauled in a touchdown pass from Chalito Cano
The Jaguars answered right back to start the fourth when Ace Bachicha found paydirt to put Capital in front 14-7. Just two minutes later, Cano found the end zone to even the score at 14-all with seven minutes still to go.
Belen’s defense forced an ensuing punt, and moments later, Elijah Schaffino-Vallejo barreled in for the BHS touchdown from 8 yards out. The Eagles also successfully completed the 2-point conversion.
--->Eldorado 70, Atrisco Heritage 43
At Wilson Stadium, the ground game for the Eagles (5-5, 4-3 in 2-6A) was wide spread and effective, as five different runners reached the end zone in Eldorado’s victory over the Jaguars (1-9, 0-7).
The Eagles scored half their points in a 35-point outburst in the first quarter, and led 49-14 at halftime.
--->Albuquerque Academy 34, Valencia 0
In Tomé, the defense for third-ranked Albuquerque Academy (6-4, 4-2 in 2-4A) pitched a shutout against the Jaguars (4-6, 2-4).
Academy kept alive its hope for a district championship, but will need Manzano to upset league-leading St. Pius on Saturday. Ryan Williams rushed for a pair of touchdowns for the Chargers.
Zachary Waghorn had 12 tackles, and also a short pick-6 for the Academy defense. Logan Hague caught six passes for 150 yards, including a 75-yard TD reception.
--->West Mesa 34, Santa Fe 30
At Nusenda Community Stadium, senior Marcos Ochoa caught two touchdown passes and he also returned a kickoff for a score as the Mustangs (3-7, 2-5 in 2-6A) closed out the 2025 season with a win over the Demons (4-6, 2-5).
--->Highland 48, Del Norte 14
At Milne Stadium, running back Jose Tapia ran for over 200 yards and three touchdowns as the Hornets (6-4, 4-3 in 1-5A) beat the Knights (1-9, 0-7) in a regular-season finale.
Sophomore George Salzano ran for a TD and caught a touchdown pass for Highland.
Navajo Prep 30, Newcomb 22
Pojoaque 19, West Las Vegas 16
Gallup 40, Shiprock 20
Friday (Oct. 31)
---> Menaul 64, Clayton 20
If there was a downside for Menaul in their dominating 64-20 win over Clayton in the opening round of the 8-Man football championships on Friday, it likely came midway through the third quarter — right after Bryan Cabrera’s interception snuffed out a Yellowjackets drive.
Panthers head coach Procopio Padilla celebrated with such jubilation that he likely tore his Achilles tendon and lay sprawled on the ground. As the game continued, and while trainers examined him, the Menaul players on the sidelines circled past and one by one gave him a pat on the head.
“I just went to step and felt my Achilles go,” he said. “So I tore my Achilles. I feel like Aaron Rodgers, right now. But, I'm not feeling anything yet. I mean, I think my adrenaline is still pretty high. So I'm probably gonna go talk to these guys, send them home, and I'm gonna get to a doctor."
Despite the injury, Padilla was all smiles as the Panthers (7-3) won a playoff game for the first time since 2019, and did so convincingly, over Clayton (3-7).
---> Las Cruces 31, Centennial 21
In Las Cruces, at the Field of Dreams, Las Cruces clinched the District 3-6A championship outright and also finished off a 10-0 regular season.
Come Saturday night, the Class 6A playoff bracket will reveal the Bulldawgs as the team to beat in November’s playoffs.
Quarterback Gunnar Guardiola was 20-for-24 for 308 yards and two touchdowns, and tailback Danny Amaro rushed for 103 yards and two scores as No. 1 Las Cruces (6-0 in 3-6A) beat No. 4 Centennial.
“To go undefeated, I don’t know if that was necessarily a goal, but it sure felt good,” Las Cruces coach Mark Lopez said.
This was the Bulldogs’ second-closest victory of the season; they beat Cleveland 38-34 back in mid-September.
Centennial (7-3, 4-2) now waits to see if it will be the final seed to earn a first-round postseason bye.
---> Hobbs 31, Carlsbad 13
Hobbs (8-2 5-1 in 3-6A), ranked No. 3, closed out a strong 8-2 campaign with a home win over Carlsbad.
Both quarterback Junior Medrano and talkback Shamus Wright rushed for two touchdowns for the Eagles, and their defense forced four Cavemen turnovers.
--->Piedra Vista 17, Farmington 14
At Hutchinson Stadium, Piedra Vista, the fourth-place team in District 1-6A, got a field goal from Deagen Herrera with 6 seconds left, as the ninth-ranked Panthers (5-5, 2-3 in 1-6A) edged rival Farmington.
The Panthers had tied the game at 14, then blocked a Scorpions punt moments later to set up the field goal.
--->Clovis 48, Alamogordo 43
In Clovis, at Leon Williams Stadium, the Wildcats (3-7, 2-4 in 3-6A) outscored Alamogordo (4-6, 1-5) 16-0 in the fourth quarter, and stunned the Tigers, ending Alamo’s playoff hopes and even giving Clovis a slight hope that it could sneak into the field when the 6A bracket is announced at about 10 p.m. Saturday.
Javier Jimenez’s 16-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter was the game-winner for the Wildcats, who earlier in the fourth quarter trailed 43-32. They scored to cut the deficit to 43-30, then recovered an onside kick.
--->Artesia 51, Mayfield 0
In Artesia, at Bulldog Bowl, top-ranked Artesia (9-1, 7-0 in 2-5A) buried No. 8 Mayfield 50-0 at Bulldog Bowl. Jack Byers caught two passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Bryce Parra rushed for 103 yards and four scores. Corbyn Dominguez not only kicked a field goal but recorded a pick-6 for the Artesia defense.
--->Roswell 35, Goddard 21
In Roswell, at Wool Bowl, the No. 2 Coyotes (8-2, 6-1 in 2-5A) beat rival Goddard. The fourth-ranked Rockets (6-4, 4-3) almost certainly are in a battle with No. 5 Los Alamos for the final first-round bye. The Hilltoppers (10-0, 6-0 in 1-5A) closed an unbeaten season, winning 42-10 against Miyamura in Gallup.
--->Moriarty 47, Kirtland Central 0
Moriarty (5-4, 4-3 in 1-4A) closed its regular season with a big home victory over Kirtland Central. Mateo Griego-Manley rushed for 156 yards and a score for the Pintos, Mario Romero rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns, and Royce Dennisson added 118 yards with a TD.
--->Eunice 62, Jal 13
Eunice senior quarterback Elijah Melancon surpassed 10,000 career passing yards for the Cardinals on Friday night, as Eunice, playing at home, routed rival Jal.
Melancon becomes just the fourth quarterback in New Mexico history to reach the magical 10,000-yard plateau, joining Brett Henson of Hatch Valley (12,124; 2002-04), Brycson King of Aztec (10,644; 2007-10) and Easton Bruere of Rio Rancho (10,204; 2012-14).

---> Los Lunas 57, Sandia 7
At Wilson Stadium, backup quarterback Luke Cieremans threw for over 300 yards and five touchdowns as eighth-ranked Los Lunas easily dispatched longshot playoff hopeful Sandia 57-7 in a game that ended with four minutes to go due to the mercy rule.
The Tigers (7-3, 6-1 in 2-6A) and coach Greg Henington felt they had accomplished enough to earn a first-round home game in the 6A bracket next week.
“You never know how it’s gonna shake out, but we’re prepared for whatever comes, but it does feel that way, yes,” Henington said.
Los Lunas has been without its season starting QB, Kaiden Reese, for a couple of weeks, but the injured signal caller is, Henington said, expected to return for the Tigers’ playoff opener either next Friday or Saturday.
---> La Cueva 51, Albuquerque High 3
La Cueva, which locked up the District 2-6A title weeks ago, closed out the regular season with a convincing 51-3 win over Albuquerque High (5-5, 3-4) at Milne Stadium.
The Bears (8-2, 7-0) finished the season on an eight-game winning streak, and one of their scores against the Bulldogs was on defense as they distributed the ball to multiple carriers for touchdowns.
---> St. Pius 49, Manzano 28
At Nusenda Community Stadium, second-ranked St. Pius (8-1, 5-1) clinched the 2-4A crown, outscoring No. 10-ranked Manzano 49-28.
Junior running back Hershul Olloway Jr., had 222 yards and four scores for the Sartans. Cayl Cox-Liggins caught six passes for 128 yards and a score, and quarterback Isaiah Carpenter threw for 277 yards on just 12 completions.
While St. Pius will have a first-round bye in the 4A playoffs, Manzano (5-5, 2-4) had to await its fate.
---> St. Michael’s 40, Robertson 6
St. Michael’s, the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A and the strong favorite to win a third straight blue trophy, dominated rival Robertson 40-6 as the Horsemen finished 10-0.

Valley doubled-up Rio Grande at Milne where Valley placekicker William Bradford kicked four field goals to lead the Vikings (4-6, 4-3 in 1-5A). Michael Garcia caught a TD pass, and Josh Sanchez rushed for a score. Rio Grande went 0-10 this season.
