The game was called midway through the third quarter.
A Rio Grande player suffered a serious leg injury on an Atrisco Heritage punt return, and was on the playing surface for approximately 20-25 minutes before an ambulance arrived.
The Jaguars improved to 1-1. The Ravens are 0-2.
Legacy Academy at Laguna-Acoma, no score reported
While the ending may have been anticlimactic, it was a victory nonetheless for Volcano Vista.
The Hawks got 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Alijah Gonzales, returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and had a pair of safeties in a lightning-shortened victory over West Mesa at Nusenda Community Stadium on Friday night. The game was called a little before 10:30 p.m. — after three completed quarters and two delays.
The Volcano Vista (2-0) defense held star Mustangs quarterback Elijah Brody relatively in check, though West Mesa (1-1) undoubtedly would have liked to have the final period to see if their star could work some magic. Brody finished with 84 yards rushing and a score along with 72 yards passing and another touchdown. However, he was consistently harassed by the Hawks’ defense and many of his shots downfield missed the mark.
Class 6A’s top-ranked Cleveland Storm rode an opportunistic and turnover-hungry defense to a showdown victory over No. 2 La Cueva, on a rainy and stormy night in Rio Rancho.
Cleveland (2-0) scored 21 points off three Bear turnovers in the first half, and with several short fields, didn’t have to travel far to earn a sizable lead, with the three drives covering a combined 56 yards.
The Storm’s outstanding senior linebacker, Strat Shufelt, had two interceptions in the third quarter for a stout Cleveland defense which didn’t surrender any points until midway through the fourth quarter.
In Belen, the game was called after halftime because of the persistent weather issues as the Monarchs (1-1) beat the Eagles (0-2).
Josh Nieto and Elijah Barber both caught touchdown passes for Manzano. And Barber was responsible for getting the Monarchs defense a safety.
At Milne Stadium, Hershul Olloway rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns, as the Sartans handed new head coach Curtis Flakes his first victory as their head coach.
The defense also registered a safety for St. Pius (1-1). Highland (0-2) has yet to score any offensive points this season.
In Bernalillo, the Spartans (2-0) continued their impressive start, as they held off the Sundevils in their home opener.
Bernalillo quarterback Uriel Castro threw three touchdown passes, including one to his brother Ulisses.
Nate Encinias had a punt return for a score for the Spartans, and Mason Espinda-McChriston and Shawn Armijo also caught TD passes from Uriel Castro.
In Artesia, the Bulldogs (2-0) swamped another Class 6A opponent, routing the visiting Eagles at Bulldog Bowl.
Quarterback Nye Estrada threw first-half touchdown passes to Frankie Galindo and Ethan Conn, and Galindo also had a scoring run as Artesia led 22-0 at halftime.
Galindo added three touchdowns in the second half.

Anthony Raymer didn’t mince words.
“Sometimes,” he said, “you gotta get punched in the mouth in order to succeed.”
A three-touchdown loss to La Cueva in Week 1 certainly got the attention of the Rio Rancho Rams, who came out under a blazing sun and, sparked by three touchdowns by Raymer, outscored visiting Eldorado to rebound from a setback eight days earlier.
Rio Rancho (1-1) led the entire way against the feisty Eagles (1-1), and the Rams won despite this bizarre statistic: Quarterbacks Noah Nelson and J.J. Arellano combined to throw for 273 yards in the first half, and not a single yard in the second half.
At Wilson Stadium, freshman Aiden Maldonado scored on a touchdown run, and Grayson Frederich caught a 40-yard scoring pass, both in the first half, as the Matadors (2-0) blanked the Panthers (0-2).
“Our defense played extremely well,” Sandia coach Chad Adcox said. “Our offense did not.”
At Nusenda Community Stadium, Charles Lopez-Burton scored on a pair of first-half touchdown runs, and the Vikings (1-1) rebounded from a tough loss to Bernalillo with a strong defensive effort against the Cougars (0-2).
At Milne Stadium, Joe Marek caught a 78-yard touchdown pass with 2:34 remaining, and the Huskies (2-0) rallied from double digits down in the second half to beat the Bears (1-1).
Hope quarterback R.J Montoya threw three touchdown passes in the victory. One to Kaleb Boatman in the third quarter pulled the Huskies within three at 20-17. He also threw a TD pass of 55 yards to James Clayton.
