This story will be updated throughout the weekend.
Thursday (Sept. 18)
---> Belen 56, Del Norte 38
At Milne Stadium, quarterback Chalito Cano had a huge night for Belen (2-3, 1-1 in 1-5A), rushing for 209 yards with three touchdowns, and throwing for 162 yards on just six completions, with three TDs, as the Eagles posted a 56-38 victory over Del Norte (0-5, 0-2). The Belen defense also returned two interceptions for scores, from Jeremiah Lord and Noah Gonzales.
---> Eastlake-El Paso, Texas 51, Rio Rancho 28
Despite a couple of touchdown receptions by Parker Miller, El Paso Eastlake defeated visiting Rio Rancho 51-28 in West Texas. The Rams (2-3) have lost three consecutive games.

Friday (Sept. 19)
---> Volcano Vista 35, Eldorado 7
A late start didn’t prevent Aurelius Wiley from putting on a show for homecoming.
The Volcano Vista quarterback accounted for five total touchdowns — four rushing and one passing — to lead the Hawks (4-1) to a 35-7 victory over Eldorado (1-3) on Friday night at Nusenda Community Stadium. The start of the game was delayed one hour due to lightning, but Wiley was plenty electric once play did begin.
“I was just being patient and waiting for the game to actually start,” Wiley said. “I was excited to play. It’s homecoming night.”
Getting off to a late start is nothing new for the Hawks in this young season.
“It's our third (delay) of the year, so we're used to that,” coach Chad Wallin said. “With homecoming and all the stuff going on, I was a little concerned about our attention to detail. Started the game a little flat … and turned the ball over early, but our kids responded well. That's kind of the thing we like about these guys.”
Wiley’s first four touchdowns came on the ground. The junior quarterback racked up 140 yards rushing in the first half alone, scoring on runs of 7, 30 and 17 yards to give his team a 21-7 lead after two quarters. He also capped off an 81-yard drive on Volcano Vista’s opening drive of the second half with another 17-yard run to increase the margin to 28-7.
---> La Cueva 27, Farmington 21 (OT)
At Hutchison Stadium in Farmington, sophomore J-Dylan Hathaway scored on a 3-yard run as the Bears (2-2) walked off the Scorpions (1-4) in overtime in the Four Corners.
Farmington went first in the overtime, but La Cueva’s defense stopped the Scorps on downs.
---> Artesia 35, Gadsden 7 (called at half)
In Anthony, N.M., Class 5A’s top-ranked Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0 in 2-5A), in their first-ever game at Gadsden, raced to a quick lead in a game that was called at halftime due to weather issues.
Tootie McNeil had an 82-yard pick-6 for the Bulldogs. Bryce Parra was over 100 yards rushing and added a score, and Trent Egeland caught two touchdown passes.
---> Los Lunas 57, West Mesa 14
At Wilson Stadium, the eighth-ranked Tigers (3-2, 2-0 in 2-6A) scored 30 seconds into the game, led 42-0 after the first quarter and routed the Mustangs (1-3, 0-1). The game started over an hour late due to lightning; in fact, all three games at the Albuquerque public stadiums started past 8 p.m. Friday.
Martin Cordova’s 14-yard run got the scoring started for Los Lunas, and he was one of eight Tigers to find the end zone.
West Mesa quarterback Jericho Brody was injured on his team’s first drive of the game and was hobbled the rest of the night, hindering the Mustangs’ attack.
Los Lunas led 50-7 at halftime. The Tigers scored two touchdowns on the ground, four in the air, and also scored on both an interception return and a punt return.

---> Cleveland 42, El Paso Pebble Hills 17
In Rio Rancho, senior quarterback Jordan Hatch threw four touchdown passes as 6A’s second-seeded Storm (4-1) rebounded from a loss last week to Las Cruces.
Junior Noah Valler caught two of the TDs. A third went to Jacob Maldonado with just 13 seconds to go before halftime as Cleveland grabbed a 21-10 lead.
Storm senior captain Troy Logan added two touchdowns and over 100 yards on the ground, as well as a couple of sacks on defense.
“It felt great being out there,” Logan said. “I love it. I love playing both ways of the ball. We've been practicing it all week.”
Cleveland receiver Evan Nañez was apparently hurt during this game, but the extent of his injury was unknown as of late Friday night.
---> Sandia 38, Santa Fe 19
At Ivan Head Stadium in Santa Fe, Tylon Wilder finally got his first win as the Matadors’ head coach, but it did come with a price as Sandia (1-4, 1-1 in 2-6A) pulled away from the Demons (3-2, 1-1).
Running back Gad Harris, on the second play of the game, suffered a serious lower leg injury, believed to be a fracture.
Quarterback Jahleel Lewis threw for over 300 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for two other scores to lead the Matadors.
Aiden Maldonado had an 87-yard pick-6 for Sandia near the end of the third quarter that gave the Matadors a 25-13 lead.
---> Manzano 40, Portales 14
In Portales, senior quarterback Bodi True threw five touchdown passes, three of them to sophomore Broden Price, and the Monarchs (4-1) won their fourth straight.
This was a District 2-4A opener against the winless Rams (0-5).
Price also recorded a pick-6 for the Monarchs.
---> Cibola 21, Clovis 8
At Leon Williams Stadium in Clovis, senior quarterback Hayes Baum rushed for three touchdowns, and the ninth-ranked Cougars (4-1) won their fourth in a row, defeating the Wildcats (1-3) who have dropped three straight.
Baum was over 100 yards rushing in the game; the entire second half was played in substantial rain.
---> Albuquerque High 28, Atrisco Heritage 0
At Milne Stadium, the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1) blanked the Jaguars (1-3, 0-1) in a District 2-6A matchup that didn’t end until 10:45 p.m. because of a late kickoff.
Romeo Ellis returned a punt for a touchdown and also had a pick on defense for AHS. Juan Carlos Landeros caught a TD pass, Alberto Landeros ran for one, and Julian Madera also rushed for a touchdown for the Bulldogs.
---> Miyamura 36, Valley 35
Miyamura (3-2, 2-0 in 1-5A) scored late in the game, and successfully converted a 2-point conversion, to defeat visiting Valley (1-4, 1-1) 36-35 in a District 1-5A game.
---> Valencia 14, Silver 6
In Silver City, tailback Michael Storms III and quarterback Santino Mares both scored rushing touchdowns for the ninth-ranked Jaguars (3-2) as they earned a District 2-4A opening upset victory over the third-ranked Colts (4-1).
Jordan Henry’s key interception was part of a strong effort for the Valencia secondary in the victory.

Saturday (Sept. 20)
---> St. Michael’s 47, Eunice 8
If you wanted to nitpick, there were a couple of irrelevant missed extra points. But so what?
The St. Michael’s Horsemen looked every bit the part of Class 3A’s top-ranked prep football team on Saturday afternoon and authored close to a flawless performance.
“That’s the best 48 minutes we’ve put together all season long,” St. Mike’s coach Joey Fernandez said admiringly.
The Horsemen’s 47-8 blitz of visiting Eunice saw them manhandle Class 2A’s second-ranked Cardinals on both sides of the ball, particularly on defense where St. Michael’s held Eunice to minus-7 yards of offense in the opening two quarters and were a physical, suffocating unit at virtually every turn.
---> Highland 26, Rio Grande 6
At Milne Stadium, the Hornets (3-2, 1-1 in 1-5A) intercepted five passes as they downed the Ravens (0-5, 0-2).
Jose Tapia had one of those picks, and he also rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown for Highland. Andres Acosta scored a pair of TDs for the Hornets.
---> Chaparral 35, Albuquerque Academy 20
At the Academy, Lobos quarterback Israel Nieto threw two long touchdown passes to Aaron Eliserio in the second half to a break a 20-20 tie, and Chaparral (4-1) won its District 2-4A opener as it defeated the Chargers (2-3).
Nieto threw a 55-yard TD pass to Eliserio in the final minute of the third quarter, and that duo hooked up for a 40-yard score midway through the fourth quarter.
William Braun threw two touchdown passes, covering 61 and 56 yards, in the loss for Academy.
---> Estancia 34 Hope Christian 54
At Wilson Stadium, the Huskies (4-1) received a pair of rushing touchdowns from senior running back Kingsley Ftritz as they outscored the Bears in a matinee matchup.
Quarterback RJ Montoya scored one touchdown on the ground, and also threw three touchdown passes for Hope Christian.
---> Legacy Academy beats McCurdy, forfeit
The Silverbacks' scheduled game Saturday against McCurdy was forfeited by the Bobcats. Legacy Academy coach Joey Romero said the Bobcats called Legacy earlier in the week to say it didn't have enough players to safely play the contest.
