This story will be updated throughout the weekend.
Thursday (Oct. 2)
---> Volcano Vista 35, Piedra Vista 7
Volcano Vista won by four touchdowns Thursday night, but coach Chad Wallin’s voice did not convey a tone of content.
“I didn’t think we played a very good game,” Wallin said. “I didn’t think we were sharp. Coming off a bye week, I can anticipate a series or two of getting back into a rhythm of things, but it felt discombobulated on our sideline, in our communications, in our execution. So I’m not real thrilled.”
The fourth-ranked Hawks beat No. 10 Piedra Vista 35-7 at Nusenda Community Stadium to open the District 1-6A half of their schedule, but Wallin let his team know he was less than pleased.
---> Valley 7, Capital 3
At Milne Stadium, Zach Perez, taking the ball out of the Wildcat formation, scored on a 2-yard run midway through the fourth quarter, and the Vikings (2-5, 2-2 in 1-5A), who have been involved in a handful of close games all season, pulled out a win over the Jaguars (2-5, 2-2).
Valley has had four games already this year decided by four or fewer points. The Vikings are 2-2 in those games. Thursday night’s game was scoreless at halftime; Capital took a 3-0 lead midway through the third quarter.
---> Centennial 42, Alamogordo 32
At the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, Dailen Ramirez rushed for four touchdowns to lead the third-ranked Hawks (5-1, 2-0 in 3-6A) over the Tigers (4-3, 1-2).

Friday (Oct. 3)
---> La Cueva 26, Eldorado 7
While there is plenty of work yet to be done this season for La Cueva, it was nonetheless a postgame dousing well deserved for coach Brandon Back.
The Bears shook off a slow start to wear down Eldorado for a 26-7 victory on Friday night at Wilson Stadium, giving Back his 100th career victory. After starting the season 0-2, La Cueva (4-2, 3-0 2-6A) has righted the ship to win four straight.
“It's really just a reflection of the staff that we have here, the kids that come through here, and the community we serve,” Back said of his 100th victory. “That's a program milestone because when you're surrounded by great men, great kids and a great community, you can do great things like that. Everybody has an equal share in that and I'm just proud to be a part of it.”
---> Rio Rancho 25, Cibola 15
September proved to be an extremely rare month in the recent annals of Rio Rancho High School football. It was a month without a single win on the ledger.
That will not be the case in October.
The Rams and Cibola grinded their way around Nusenda Community Stadium on Friday night for well over two quarters, but No. 6-ranked Rio Rancho eventually found daylight, ending a three-game losing streak with a 25-15 win over No. 9 Cibola in a District 1-6A opener for both.
---> Cleveland 49, Farmington 3 (called at HT)
