Where do the Lobos stand after first week of transfer portal?

As of Thursday afternoon, 10,034 college football players were in the transfer portal.

To Jason Eck, that might be cause for celebration.

“Congrats to whoever was the transfer portal’s 10,000th customer,” New Mexico’s head coach joked on X. “Report to the concession stand for a free hot dog.”

Jokes aside, perhaps no transfer window has been quite as busy as this one: Since the portal opened on Jan. 2, over 3,350 FBS players have entered, a sum that amounts to roughly 25% of all players in the entire subdivision. That figure doesn't factor in a record number of entries from the FCS and Division II ranks, with turnover at all levels setting up the most congested transfer cycle in recent memory.

But even in that chaos, UNM might have reason to celebrate. Only 14 Lobos have entered the portal, a far cry from the churn of UNM’s last couple offseasons, while 15 have signed on to return. Of course, that’s not to mention UNM’s recent commitments out of the portal, a number expected to grow in the coming days and weeks.

So where do the Lobos stand after one week of this portal cycle? Here’s a look:
