Roswell coach to be inducted into NFHS Hall of Fame
Flo Valdez, who retired in 2018, is one of the most decorated volleyball coaches in the state
Flo Valdez from Roswell, who enjoyed one of the most prodigious coaching careers before she retired in 2018, is going into the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Hall of Fame this year.
She is one of a dozen individuals selected for induction, which will occur later this year at the NFHS Summer Meeting in Utah.
Valdez, one of New Mexico’s most decorated prep volleyball coaches, spent 44 years coaching multiple sports – the first 22 in New Mexico, the last 22 in Texas before retirement.
She is a Roswell High graduate, and coached volleyball, basketball and track and field with her alma mater. The Coyotes won three volleyball titles (1976, 1977, 1993) during Valdez’s 22 years, plus a state track title in 1989.
As Roswell’s volleyball coach, Valdez was 376-67. She moved to El Paso in 1996, and coached volleyball at Franklin High until she retired. She had a 705-181 record at Franklin. She combined for 1,081 coaching victories in New Mexico and El Paso.
