Who have the Lobos offered in the portal? Here's a look

UNM has offered multiple Power Four transfers in an effort to address roster needs

Since the end of the season, New Mexico’s portal wish list hasn’t been a complete unknown. The Lobos need more cornerbacks, productive edge rushers, maybe an offensive tackle or two. 

Who might comprise that list, however, has been a relative unknown — until this week.

Since the transfer portal opened last Friday, UNM has offered a number of players to help address those needs entering head coach Jason Eck’s second season with the program. 

Here's a look at some of those players:

Note: All offers were announced by the following players via social media. 

CB Five Hamilton (Kennesaw State)

Additional offers: Arkansas State and North Texas

Summary: Hamilton, a 5-foot-10, 177-pound redshirt sophomore, made 38 total tackles and one interception in 14 games this season with the Owls. Before enrolling at Kennesaw State, he was a first team All-Region selection in his final three years at Dutchtown (Georgia) High School.

Hamilton has two years of eligibility remaining.

CB Ormanie Arnold (Cincinnati)

Additional offers: Nebraska and Rice

Summary: Arnold, a 5-9, 183-pound redshirt junior, made 14 total tackles in 10 games this season with the Bearcats. The former three-star prospect transferred to Cincinnati after two years at Idaho, where he played under current UNM head coach Jason Eck and cornerbacks coach Stanley Franks Jr.

Arnold has one year of eligibility remaining.

CB Eric McClain (Ball State)

Additional offers: UTEP

Summary: McClain, a 6-0, 181-pound sophomore, made 28 total tackles, two interceptions and forced three fumbles in 12 games this season with the Cardinals. Before enrolling at Ball State, he was listed as a three-star prospect out of Glenbard East (Ill.) High School.

McClain has two years of eligibility remaining.

LB Chidu Bekee (Northern Illinois)

Additional offers: West Georgia and Wagner College

Summary: Bekee, a 6-3, 227-pound redshirt freshman, did not appear in a game this season at Northern Illinois, where, in 2024, he was coached by current UNM linebackers coach Nate Palmer. Before joining the Huskies, Bekee was a first team All-Conference honoree as a senior at Plainfield East (Ill.) High School.

Bekee has three years of eligibility remaining.

LB Clay Martineau (Boise State)

Additional offers: Sacramento State

Summary: Martineau, a 6-3, 227-pound sophomore, appeared in three games with the Broncos this season. Before enrolling at Boise State, he was rated as a four-star recruit out of Oregon City (Oregon) High School, where he was recruited by Eck’s staff at Idaho.

Martineau has three years of eligibility remaining.

OT Payton Stewart (Michigan State)

Additional offers: Colorado State

Summary: Stewart, a 6-6, 308-pound redshirt freshman, did not see the field in two seasons with the Spartans. He was rated as a three-star recruit out of Kelso (Wash.) High School, where he was named All-Region as a senior.

Stewart has three years of eligibility remaining.

TE Tripp Walsh (Iowa State)

Additional offers: N/A

Summary: Walsh, a 6-6, 240-pound redshirt sophomore, appeared in all 12 games this season with the Cyclones and caught one pass for nine yards. Before enrolling at Iowa State, he was rated as a two-star prospect out of Arrowhead (Wisc.) High School, earning All-Conference honors as a senior.

Walsh has two years of eligibility remaining.
