Consuelo "Consie" Griego 1940-2025 Consuelo "Consie" Griego, age 85, a resident of Veguita for more than 70 years, passed away on June 2, 2025, with her loving family by her side. Services will be held at San Juan Catholic Church in Veguita on Friday, July 18, beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m., a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at San Juan Catholic Cemetery. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years; Sisto Griego; children, Juan Griego, Jim Griego (Patricia), Yvonne Griego (Bobby Cobbins), Sharon Gonzales (Eric), Sandra Garcia (Danny) and Kim Griego (Jolene); 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren one great-great grandchild; sister, Irene Romero; and brother-in-law, Arthur Zubiate. Consie is preceded in death by parents, Jenaro and Trinidad Baca Black; brothers, Alfred "Florence" and Gilbert Black; sisters, Rosie Garcia (Louie), Lillian Baca (Jimmy), Rosemary Saiz (Folie) and Margaret Zubiate; father-in-law, Juan Griego; and mother-in-law, Cyprianna Griego. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Sisto, for more than 65 years. Consie was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in La Joya San Juan Mission for over 60 years, where she was a mayordomo many times and padrino for Baby Jesus. She also made alter cloths for San Juan Mission and always made floral arrangements for the Blessed Sacrament. Consie planted trees and shrubs around San Juan Mission as well. She was also a CCD teacher, and DRE for Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, and one of the first members of St. Vincent de Paul. Consie's love of her church community was a way of life for her. As the years went by, she was not able to participate physically, but she would continue to find ways to help the community grow their faith. Consie also donated much of her time to community service. She was in the Women's Auxiliary for the local fire department, was assistant and coach/nurse for her sons' Little League team for many years, and was a 4-H leader in a cooking and sewing class.
