Delmar Calhoun Delmar Calhoun, beloved husband, father, Air Force veteran, business leader, storyteller, and friend, passed away on July 30th, 2025 at the age of 92. Born in Durango, Colorado, on August 13th, 1932, Del's upbringing during the Great Depression shaped his values of grit, generosity, and community. A graduate of Durango High School, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He served as a B-47 bomber pilot during the Cold War before beginning a distinguished career in engineering, retiring as director of the New Mexico Engineering Research Institute after 36 years. Married to Jane, his college sweetheart, Del lived by his motto "go out and make good memories." Del was an avid writer, publishing his first book Long Night of the Beaver at 92, and a skilled woodworker, photographer, and storyteller. He loved the San Juan Mountains, time at his family's lake cabin, and being with the people he loved. Del is survived by Jane, his wife of 68 years, three children, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held August 23, 2025 at 10 AM at Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque.
