Dr. Richard Frederiksen Dr. Richard A. Frederiksen, 92, passed away on August 13, 2025. He was born in 1933 in Minnesota and married his wife, Phyllis Krinke, in 1958. Richard earned his bachelor's, master's, and PhD in plant pathology from the University of Minnesota. In 1963, he and Phyllis moved to Texas, where he began his career at Texas AandM University. Over 35 years, he became a tenured professor and respected researcher in plant pathology. Upon retirement, Richard and Phyllis made New Mexico their home. Richard enjoyed flying small planes, fishing, coaching softball, supporting his children's activities, reading, hiking, and attending the Santa Fe Opera. He also contributed to UNM's University Showcase radio program. Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Frederiksen; son, Jonathan Frederiksen; daughter, Kristin "Kris" Frederiksen; daughters-in-law, Lisa Boyd and Stacy Bruce-Frederiksen; and grandchildren, Julia Frederiksen, Mikaela Neubauer, and Arwen Frederiksen. He is also survived by two sisters, Coralee Bibeau and Terry Ann Abel. Richard will be remembered for his love of life, natural curiosity, infectious laugh, and warm smile.
