Dr. Robert P. Sandoval April 30, 1945-May 20, 2025 Dr. Robert P. Sandoval, 80, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on May 20, 2025. Born in Las Cruces, NM, Robert was a lifelong learner, devoted father, and cherished grandfather. He earned a Ph.D. in Nuclear Quantum Physics from New Mexico State University his proud alma mater and retired as a manager from Sandia National Laboratories. Robert gave his heart and mind to all he pursued. Whether conducting research or playing Debussy's Clair de Lune, he embraced each task with care. He coached his son Derek's soccer team, built a telescope at a local high school, and tutored students in math. At 48, Robert survived a major stroke and relearned to walk, speak, read, write, and calculate. Through strength and determination, he regained his independence and lived fully for decades beyond. He found joy in shopping, coffee, music, history and above all, his family. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Elfie M. Apodaca and Florencio Sandoval. He is survived by his brother Raymond Sandoval; sons Derek (Lauren) and Aaron Sandoval; and grandchildren Isaac, Jayden, and Mallory. He will be remembered for his resilience, curiosity, and love of family.
