Elisabeth "Betsy" Peirce Schultz Elisabeth "Betsy" Peirce Schultz, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, following a dementia-related illness. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, and friend, Betsy's warmth, wit, and wisdom touched the lives of many people throughout her life. Born on September 8, 1934, in Hinsdale, Illinois, to Betty and Gene Peirce, Betsy moved to Albuquerque during high school. She graduated from Highland High School and UNM. She spent many years as a beloved teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools. Betsy was a lifelong learner and passionate community advocate. Her energy and spirit were felt across many organizations, including the Junior League of Albuquerque, Pi Beta Phi Alumni Club, Mensa, the Assistance League of Albuquerque, and the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John Altar Guild. She was an enthusiastic tennis player, tap-dancer, Jazzerciser, and SOCIAL bridge player (not "duplicate bridge" because she got in trouble for talking), and loved UNM football and women's basketball. Betsy will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, extended family, and the many friends and students who were lucky enough to know her. She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Schultz Musch; her son, Stephen Schultz (Alison); grandchildren, Rachel Musch (Jeff Taylor), Sam Schultz (Juliette), and Amy Schultz, as well as her great granddaughter, Blaire Taylor. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene and Lenny. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Elisabeth P. Schultz Endowed Teacher Preparation Scholarship at the University of New Mexico Foundation, or to the Albuquerque Museum, in Betsy's memory. A Celebration of Life will be held in Albuquerque on August 9, 2025. Please email Betsy.Schultz.memorial@gmail.com for more detailed information.
