Gail H. Harcourt Gail H. Harcourt, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on December 14, 1943, Gail spent her life dedicated to both her family and her passions, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. Gail earned two Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Education and the other in Nursing. She would say she was doubly educated in BS. She spent much of her career as a school nurse for Bernalillo Public Schools. Her caring and patient nature made her an invaluable resource to students and staff alike. She was known for her compassion, always going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of others. Outside of her professional life, Gail's love for learning and exploration led her to a deep passion for Paleontology. She was an active member of the "Friends of Paleontology" at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, where she volunteered in the Fossil Works Exhibit. Gail's enthusiasm for fossils and prehistoric creatures was infectious, and she loved sharing her knowledge and discoveries with others. She also loved music. She was proud of playing clarinet in the opening ceremonies for the 1960 Winter Olympics and she enjoyed performing with the Albuquerque Concert Band for over thirty-five years. Gail was also known for her love of all creatures, big and small. She had a particular fondness for spiders, snakes, and other "creepy crawlies," embracing them with the same warmth and patience she showed to people. She is survived by her children, Michael Harcourt, Catherine Payette, and Elizabeth Harcourt; her grandchildren, Cameron Payette, Aidan Payette, and Miranda Harcourt; her Great-Granddaughter Emery Payette; and her siblings, Joyce Pederson, Stanley G. Hill, Jr., and Barbara Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley G. Hill, Sr. and Velma Hill, and her husband Peter Mateu. A memorial service will be held to honor Gail's life at St. Thomas of Canterbury on March 15th, 2025 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Albuquerque Concert Band, or the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Gail's legacy of kindness, patience, and love for all living things will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to have crossed her path.
