Gary McClellan Taylor Gary McClellan Taylor, beloved husband
Gary McClellan Taylor Gary McClellan Taylor, beloved husband and father, passed into his eternal home on May 19, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM. Gary was known for his infectious sense of humor and remarkable gift for problem-solving. He lived a full and impactful life, leaving his mark not only on the structures he helped build but also on the countless lives he touched. Born on August 9, 1946, in El Paso, TX, to Lamar Taylor and Ione McClellan, Gary spent his childhood in El Paso and graduated from Irvin High School in 1964. He began his studies at Brigham Young University before starting work in 1965 as a drafter for the Oregon Highway Department. In 1971, he joined the Army Reserve, serving for six years. During this time, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1973. On June 8, 1974, Gary married his sweetheart, Evalee Bailey. The couple settled in Albuquerque, where Gary initially ran a business and later spent several years teaching. In 1984, he pursued his passion for building by launching a general and electrical contracting business. Over the years, he constructed numerous apartments and commercial buildings throughout New Mexico. Although he retired from construction in 2018, Gary never stopped helping others, generously sharing his extensive knowledge of the trade. Gary is survived by his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Evalee Taylor; and his children: Lewis Taylor (Christina), Christopher Taylor (Kristen), Douglas Taylor (Lydia), and Melissa Lima (Eduardo). He is also survived by his brother Duane Taylor (Susan). He will be deeply missed by his 14 grandchildren: Ashley Jackel (Ben), Austin Taylor (Rachel), Katie Wilson (Jacob), Natalie Taylor, Mackenzie Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Reagann Taylor, Addison Taylor, Jaxon Taylor, Henry Taylor, Calvin Taylor, Sam Taylor, Cassidy Taylor, and Alison Lima, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his siblings Verl Taylor, Sally Krieger, and Robert Taylor. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gary was cherished for his sharp intellect and wonderful sense of humor - better than having no sense at all, as he would often say. His witty, and often corny, "Garyisms" live on in the hearts of his children and all who knew him. A surrogate father to many and a favorite among the missionaries he welcomed into his home, Gary's warmth and humor left a lasting impression. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice unit at Kaseman Hospital for their compassionate care during Gary's final days. Their love and kindness ensured his transition was peaceful and his family well-supported. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Montaño Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1100 Montaño Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107. A visitation with family and friends will take place prior to the service at 9:00 a.m.
