Gayle Frances Downs Gayle Frances Downs, our beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on May 5, 2025 at the age of 81 at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "Mina" as she was affectionately named by her grandchildren, was a bright light in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her passing has left a huge void in the hearts of her family and friends. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Carugno; son, Robert (Bobby) Downs; and brother, Bill Carugno. She is survived and missed deeply by her husband of 63 years, Robert Downs; daughter, Kelly (Michael) Lichtenberger; grandchildren, Sara, Rachel, and Jacob (Andrea) Lichtenberger; great-grandchildren, Shiloh and Finley; sister, Nancy Sobba, and many other family members who adored her. Gayle will be remembered for her silliness, sense of humor, devotion to family, and love of travel. She was always up for impromptu road trips, and her go-with-the-flow attitude made for incredible memories. She was a wonderful mom and an incredible grandmother. She was blessed with so many friends who she loved dearly. She always had a positive attitude even during hard times and never complained. She was thankful for everything, no matter how small. Navigating life without this precious soul will take some time for her family. She was was loved beyond measure. Cremation has taken place, and per her wishes, a celebration of life by the ocean (her favorite place) will take place at a later date.
