Helen Michael Azar Helen always said she wanted to go out dancing. At the end of her life although her body wasn't able to, in her mind she could see herself dancing with her beloved husband once again in heaven. At age 21, Helen met Frank Azar at a UNM dance. They danced the entire evening. They were smitten with each other. A whirlwind romance ensued and they were married 6 months later. He was the love of her life. They were married 63 years until Frank's death in 2014. Helen and Frank had 3 children, Frank Jr., Ray (deceased), and Sharon. Helen passed peacefully on March 20, 2025. She was born in 1929 in Albuquerque, where she lived her entire life. A successful business woman, professional visual artist, and community volunteer, Helen was highly energetic. At age 19, she opened and managed Rayond's Children's Shop located next to the Kimo Theater. She was the first to have creative scenes in shop display windows on Central Avenue. In 1961, along with her husband, they opened Azar's Meats. In her later life, Helen was the owner and broker for her own real estate business. In addition to her business life, she loved entertaining, traveling, taking college classes, music, and of course dancing. Helen's creativity came out in her oil painting, decorating and through fashion. She volunteered for many social organizations and those associated with the arts. She was appointed to the NM Arts Commission and later became the Chairman in 1977. Helen was generous, spoke her mind and had an uplifting spirit. Throughout her life, she met intellectual or personal challenges with determination, perseverance, and resililence, all bolstered by her deep faith, trust, and positive attitude. Helen is survived by Sharon, Frank Jr., grandson Zach (Coli), great-grandson Jude. Helen requested that there be no service.
