Joe W. Roberts It is with profound sadness that our beloved
Joe W. Roberts It is with profound sadness that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Joe W. Roberts, passed away on February 1, 2025, at the wonderful age of 92. We will miss his wit, dry sense of humor, his smile, his laughter, and the many interesting stories of a life well lived. We'll start with his service in the Navy serving on a submarine during the Korean War, which was a special time in his life. When he got out of the service, he took the GI Bill and went back to UNM, joined the PI Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated as a mechanical engineer. His time in the service and UNM forged many bonds that would last a lifetime and lead to many business ventures throughout his life. The first job after he graduated was at ATF designing bombs. He decided that was not for him so he started a heating and AC company. He then went into construction and built apartments, dams, hotels, missile silos, roadways, runways, and just about anything else anyone wanted. He then decided to manufacture and install cellulose insulation, at the same time he bought a turquoise mine in Nevada. It was one of the largest turquoise mines in the US. His last venture, before retirement, he and his wife, Sharon, decided to build low-income housing for the Federal Government. That in turn gave them a chance to travel the world and meet great people whom they shared many interests with. He leaves behind his best friend and beloved wife, Sharon, daughter Wynn, grandson John, daughter Carol, son-in-law Adrian, stepdaughter Eva, sister Shirley, brother-in-law Dick, and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. Joe lived life on his terms with a child-like spirit and a passion for life. Those of us who knew him will miss him dearly and mourn the loss of love and the friendship of a remarkable man who was fun loving and always a little irreverent. We would like to thank Dr. Palacio and her team at New Mexico Cancer Center for their special care and thoughtfulness. Also, Bosque Trails Hospice for their gentle, kind, and loving end of life care. Cremation has taken place and he will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 11:00am. There will be no funeral, but a gathering in Joe's honor will be held at a later date, which will be announced in the paper, please join us then in a celebration of life for this amazing man.
