Joseph Wexler November 21, 1933 - August 18, 2025 Joe Wexler was born on Manhattan's Lower East Side, and he earned a civil engineering degree from the City College of New York and a Master of Science from UNM. Joe married Merida Barnes in 1962. They settled in New Mexico with their three children: Lieb Jack, Rachel Francesca, and Perdita Matisse. Joe had a career focused on hydraulic engineering. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Albuquerque, Vicksburg, and Anchorage), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (San Francisco), and the Navajo Nation Safety of Dams Program (Fort Defiance, AZ). He was passionate about politics, stained glass artistry, cinema, and WW II history. A devoted husband, he cared for Merida through her Alzheimer's Disease until her 2017 passing. He is survived by his three children and three grandchildren, Gemma Lee, Elijah Clay, and Rhys Alexander. His ashes will be scattered privately in the vicinity of Coney Island.
