She attended the University of Michigan, earning a degree in Nursing. Joy met her love and husband, Jack Eaton, during his time as a medical student at the University of Michigan. Soon after, they welcomed their daughters, Jennifer and Abigail into their lives, and she embraced the role of full-time mother and wife. Always the creative person, when the Eaton family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1971, Joy immersed herself in art, first studying photography at the University of New Mexico, and later watercolor painting. She went on to become an active member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, showing her art in Yucca Gallery in Old Town, and galleries in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She won many awards for her artistic endeavors for her work. Her creativity was evident in all aspects of her life, particularly notable in her beautiful handwriting. She greatly appreciated music, particularly classical, Opera, and the ballads of Nat King Cole. She enjoyed cooking, and her Christmas cookie baking skills were legendary. Her grandchildren fondly remember the chocolate chip waffles she served for breakfast whenever they had a sleepover. Her friends and family remember her as the joyful person her name lived up to, bringing a smile to all. She loved to travel with family and friends, visiting countries all over the world, she cherished her time at the second home in Durango, Colorado, and always hoped for snow in the winter as skiing was a favorite pastime. Summer hikes in the mountains with wildflowers always brought a happiness and a true appreciation for life. Joy leaves behind two daughters, their husbands, three grandchildren, two sons-in-law, and two great-grandchildren.
