Kathleen Ann Nye Kathleen Ann Nye passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025 after a brief illness. Kathi was born on March 28, 1953 in Niagara Falls, New York to Edward and Nora Mitchell Souney, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in Newington, Connecticut and attended parochial school at Mount St. Joseph Academy graduating in 1971. She continued her education at the University of New Haven where she graduated in 1975 with a B.A. in Social Welfare. She met her husband of 37 years, Harry Gale Nye III, who preceded her in death, at UNH. The couple moved briefly to Galesburg, Illinois before settling in Albuquerque in 1982 with their son, Benjamin. Kathi worked at Kindergarten Korner daycare before finding her calling as a special education teacher with Albuquerque Public Schools at McCollum Elementary in 1987, where she taught for over 37 years. She had a passion for teaching and helping kids with special needs, specifically autism. Kathi loved her animals from small to large and made sure they had a forever home. She also enjoyed taking walks, gardening, crocheting, reading and watching classic movies on TCM. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gale Nye III; sister, Judith Souney Paskowitz; and parents, Edward and Nora Mitchell Souney. Kathi is survived by her son, Benjamin of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Charles Kelly Nye of Galesburg, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Robert Paskowitz of West Hartford, CT.
