Kent Potter Kent Frederick Potter passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on July 17th, 2025 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. Born July 20th, 1945, Kent grew up in Grayslake, IL on the family farm and studied architecture in Champaign, IL. A survivor of the Polio epidemic, he was an architect planner at NASA Goddard for decades, and a champion for humane, universal design and accessibility in his buildings and life. With Catherine Barba, he raised two beloved and curious children, Alejandra and Sean in Maryland. He first fell in love with New Mexico while building a satellite station in Las Cruces, and dreamed of making a home here. Having proudly supported civilian space and earth science, Kent retired in 2007 to Mountainair, NM and his sustainable straw-bale house. He loved music, arts, nature, and the Lord, and served in the Manzano Mountain Arts Council and Mountainair United Methodist Church. Kent is survived by his two children, and sisters Linda (Richard), Susan, and Jeri; siblings-in-law, Richard, Ena, and Regina; as well as nephews and nieces, Sam (Melissa), Christopher, Andrea, Jacob (Kelly), Michaelene (Anthony), and Erin (Christopher.) He is preceded in death by his parents, Sara Jane (Meyers) and Wayne Potter; siblings, Gretchen, John, and Ralph; and niece, Lindsay. Services are in Mountainair Sunday, October 19th, 2025: Formal service, 1:30PM at Mountainair UMC, and at 3PM a remembrance and food at the Manzano Mountain Arts Center.
