Lawrence (Larry) D Wheeler Larry passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025 at the age of 88. He was born and raised in Santa Fe and attended Saint Michael's and Santa Fe HS. After graduating from UNM, he went on to a 30 year teaching career, sharing his love for music as a band director in APS. Larry enjoyed an additional career playing in and leading local dance and big bands. He served for many years as president of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 618. He was a charter member of the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra and also played with the Albuquerque Concert Band. He enjoyed reading, fishing, playing tennis, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Diantha, children: Lauren Huested, Alles Meghan Dunaway and husband Jonathan, T. D. Lael Wheeler and wife Jessica, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to his loving caregivers, Violeta, Elizabeth, and especially Adriana and Olga.
