Louis Fernandez Louis Fernandez, 92, passed on October 12, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Garfield High School ('52) graduate, proud U.S. Air Force veteran of 21 years in air rescue and fire protection with tours in Iceland, Germany, England, Thailand and during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He devoted 20 years of service to the NM Licensing and Regulations Department. An avid tennis competitor and and self-taught artist, pianist and fencer, he also participated in the Veterans NM Honor Guard. Louis is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Virginia; his son David (Joanne); his son Manuel; his daughter Donna Abbott (Christopher); his son Louis (Stuart); his grandchildren; Joseph, David, Michael and Gabriela; his great-grandchild; Alexandra; his brother Julian Fernandez. Preceded in death by his parents Eulalia and Jose Luis Fernandez; and brother Gilbert Fernandez. He is survived by many dear nephews, nieces and cousins. Service: Friday, November 14, 2025, 12:30 PM, Santa Fe National Cemetery (Catholic rite, military honors). The Celebration of Life will follow 4:30-7:00 pm on November 14, 2025 at The New Mexico Veterans Memorial Park: 1100 Louisiana Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
