Lynn D. Lucas Lynn Dean Lucas, father, brother, cousin, uncle, partner, and friend, died peacefully on August 18, 2025 under excellent care at Presbyterian hospice. Lynn was born to Clara May (Berlier) Lucas and Sylvester H Lucas on June 23, 1944, in Galesburg, Illinois, during Sylvester's army training. After WWII, they returned to Albuquerque. In 1953, Larry (Julie Lucas), Lynn's brother, was born. At Valley High School, Lynn was 1962 senior class treasurer and a founding member of the F.O.O.D club. After earning an engineering degree from UNM in 1966, he worked for the phone company, later opening a fiberglass manufacturing shop, and serving in the National Guard. He bought White Cloud Trucking from Sylvester in 1980, retiring in 2005. Lynn was married to Sherril Coulter from 1972 - 2013; their children Sherilyn Marie (David Kleinfeld) and K.C. (Sarah Lynn Buck Lucas) were born in 1974 and 1977 respectively. Since October 2021, he and Janiece Loveland, a former VHS classmate, have enjoyed an adventurous and caring relationship. Lynn's interests were many, including flying, dune buggy racing, fishing, hunting, boating, and VWs. He rebuilt a Karmann Ghia for Sherilyn and a Thing for K.C., which K.C. still has. One of Lynn's main talents was roping people into his plans, whether going rafting, helping him with a project or a crossword puzzle, or an impromptu meal out. He loved reading; favorite titles include Lonesome Dove, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, and A Gentleman in Moscow. To share a laugh with Lynn, watch the Honey Badger Don't Care video. You knew if you were Lynn's person, as he would call you often and drop by unexpectedly. Lynn especially loved his dogs Saigon and Charlie Kate, horse Diesel, and cat Kitty, who must be wondering where her favorite person and his lap are. We feel sure that Lynn is someplace now reunited with the greatly mourned animals, family and friends who passed before him. And in that place, his boat is pristinely rebuilt, so he can go out on the water anytime. K.C. and Sarah will spread Lynn's ashes at the elk camp. Memorial Services are Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 12:30pm at Grace (formerly Harwood) United Methodist Church at 420 San Lorenzo Ave NW in Albuquerque.
