Max Luft Max Luft passed away on May 9, 2025. He was born March 30, 1938, in Berkeley, California to Max and Edith Luft. The family moved to Rhode Island, Virginia, California, and then to Michigan where Max graduated from high school. Education was important and he attended six universities, and taught school in Michigan, Georgia, Colorado, and New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Dr. Julie Luft (Ken), David Luft (Dina), Cara Heck (Al), and Cristy Saint-Pierre (Elliott); five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He focused on family with the goal of personally visiting each of his children each quarter of the year. Traveling was a joy and he visited every state and over 30 countries. For fun, he was a private pilot and owned his plane. He worked with Boy Scouts as Scoutmaster, Wood Badge Instructor, and District Commissioner. He served in the Presbyterian Church as a deacon and elder since 1961, was a member of many committees at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and taught for the Board of National Missions. Professionally, he served education as a math and science teacher, Director of Testing in Albuquerque Public Schools, and a Director for a federal educational laboratory before starting four educational support organizations: Southwest Research, CES, AEPA, and ACES. This amounted to over sixty years in education. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm.
