Philip Green July 12, 1941 - March 2, 2025 Philip Joseph Green, Ph.D., was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Elton and Lou Green. He was raised and attended school in Cordova, Tennessee. Philip graduated from Rhodes College in 1963. He married Barbara Hollingsworth and parented daughters, Kelly and Kimberly. In 1968 he completed his Ph.D. in Physics at LSU. For almost twenty years, he taught Physics at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. He collaborated on international projects such as MACRO and IEEE and directed the choir at St. Paul's Methodist Church. Philip officially retired from TAMU in 1987. From 1986 - 2004, he was employed at Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque; there he continued to work in global collaborations. In 1990 he married Judy Mahoney, "adopting" her son, Tom. Since 1988 Phil participated in New Mexico Men's Wellness with a smaller group meeting bi-monthly. He was a member of New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists and, since 2004, a member of Amapola Gallery. He was "a true Renaissance man" pursuing many creative interests and spending many happy hours on the San Juan River. Phil was surrounded by family as he transitioned from this life. He exemplified keen intelligence, gentle humor, and eternal optimism. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Lou Green, sister Christa Warner and her husband Fred. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Judy Green; brother Rodney Green and wife Lucille; daughters Kelly Ross and husband Alan, Kimberly Downey and husband Mike; stepson Tom Mahoney; grandchildren Ryan Green, Summer Wood, Taylor Backstrom and husband Scott with Phil's great grandson Hank Backstrom, his granddaughter Caitlin Mahoney and members of the extended Green Family.
