Rich Pokorski Rich Pokorski, 72, passed away on November 12, 2025. He was born on May 20, 1953, in Huntington Park, California. Rich attended the University of New Mexico from 1971-1975, where he was a proud member of the Lobos men's basketball team. Following graduation, he dedicated 29 years to Eldorado High School in Albuquerque as a teacher, coach, and athletic director, shaping the lives of countless students. After retiring from education, he pursued a second career as a hunting guide, embracing his love of the outdoors. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, June and Ray Pokorski. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Cindy; daughters Becky Newmon and Stacy Pokorski; sons-in-law Sam Newmon and Mike Sanchez; granddaughters Ella and Cora Newmon; and his sister Sally Van Arsdale and her husband, Howard. Rich cherished his family above all else and delighted in creating memories with them. He lived life to the fullest, embracing every new adventure. Shortly before his passing, he reflected on how fortunate he had been and expressed that he had no regrets. In lieu of a memorial service, Rich asked that friends and loved ones share a fond memory of him with their own families, and with his, if possible. Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho will host a game in his honor on February 3, 2026, at 7 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to Presbyterian Hospice, the organization that supported him during his battle with pancreatic cancer.
