Robert Franklin Gish Robert Franklin Gish, distinguished author, professor, musician, and much-loved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 1, 2025, in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 85 years old. Born on April 1, 1940, in Albuquerque, Robert's life was one of curiosity, creativity, and boundless intellectual striving. Robert was known for his extensive and eclectic contributions to literature, authoring over seventeen published works - fiction, memoir, folktales, essays, and literary biographies - that explored the American Southwest, Native American culture, and the ever-evolving American identity. Above all, Bob cherished his family - his beloved wife of 65 years, Judith Stephenson Gish; his children, Robin Gish Butzier, Tim Gish, and Annabeth Gish; his seven grandchildren; and his great-granddaughter. Bob lived, loved, and never stopped learning. Ever striving, ever seeking, and always shining, he leaves us with a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and wonder. He was, and will remain, a part of us all.
