Timothy Gene Lamkin Timothy Gene Lamkin was born on May 24, 1952 in Whittier, California. He died May 11, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico after a long illness. Knowing Tim meant that you understood his passion for life and adventures. The time between those dates mattered most to him. Tim loved the outdoors and spent his childhood building forts in the canyons of Los Alamos, playing outside and camping. He began riding bicycles at 8 years old appropriating his sister's bike until he got his own. He loved cycling and spent time participating in various road races around New Mexico and Colorado. He also loved racing of any kind and especially anything fast. Over the years he raced sprint cars, shifter carts, his beloved Swift DB4 and when no one was looking, his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. For a time, he worked on Al Unser Jr's race team, traveling the Indy circuit. Tim was an excellent metal fabricator, creating masterpieces was one of his gifts. It also enabled him to rebuild his race cars when the inevitable happened. Tim did 3 tours in Vietnam enlisting at 17 in the Air Force where he spent 6 years. Upon return he distanced himself from his service until he eventually embraced it. His service to the country continued all his adult life during his 34 years working for the Air Force Research Lab. He loved everything technical, covert and space exploration related. He and his wife Carol were working off bucket list items that mostly included travel and cars. On one trip they purchased a fast, beautiful 1932 Ford Hot Rod Pickup Truck. Tim is survived by his loving wife Carol; his daughter Amanda (Cache) and granddaughters Lia, Olivia, and Hazel; Carol's Mother Joanne; his sister Diane (Larry) and was a beloved Uncle to Steve, Dione (David), Kyle (Nelya) Westyn, Wylo, Shelby and Jacie. A celebration of Life has been held for Tim. Internment with military honors will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite animal rescue organization, a favorite charity of Tim's.
