Wirt Squires Wirt Victor Squires Jr. went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2025. He was born in Red Cliff, CO and lived most of his life in Santa Fe. He graduated from C.U. Boulder in Colorado and was in the U.S. Army stationed in Socorro, NM. This is where he met his wife, Arta Bickley. She preceded him in death also his son, Bruce Squires; and his son-in-law, David Higgins. Wirt was a kind man with a humorous spirit who worked as an accountant for numerous businesses, museums, schools, restaurants, and gift-shops. He often said he was just a humble book keeper. He enjoyed serving in the Santa Fe community by serving on many art, educational, and christian boards. He was also involved in residential and commercial real estate, and owned many businesses over the years. Wirt was very athletic and he liked to be a life guard, member of the Santa Fe Ski Patrol, climb mountains in Nepal, and play and watch golf. He had a real appreciation for nature and art by sketching and painting the beauty of colors and shapes. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports, watching the Green Bay Packers, and driving his red Miata around town. While he came from very humble beginnings, he was always grateful for the success he achieved. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Plummer of Grand Junction, CO; his daughter, Brenda (Larry) of Cheney, KS; two grandchildren, Matt (Nina) of Albuquerque, NM, and Joanna (Wes) of Mt. Hope, KS, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and Antoinette, his friend of thirty years. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santa Fe Preparatory School and Santa Fe Community College.
