With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Samuel (Sammy) Martin Gonzales on Sunday, September 21, 2025. He was born in Socorro, New Mexico on February 25,1958 to Abran Jaramillo Gonzales and Lillie Armijo Gonzales. He was the eighth of nine children. Sammy is survived by his sisters, Jenny Pyland, Beatrice Zamora, Barbara Zamora (Jimmy), and Roseann Savedra (Danny). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sammy is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Eddie Gonzales, Sr., Joseph Gonzales, and Henry Gonzales; his sister, Diana Lucille Gonzales; his brothers-in-law, Ernest Zamora, Sr. and Bill Pyland, Jr.; his nephews, Ernest (Ernie) Zamora, Jr., Richard Zamora, Sr., Richard (Richie) Zamora, Jr., Floyd (Floytie) Savedra, Jr., Bobby (BJ) Zamora, Jr., Eddie Gonzales III; and his niece, Kayla VanLandingham. Sammy started working early in his life and could do any type of work. He was a skilled equipment operator, carpenter (he built our mom's cabinets), mechanic, and many other things. He was a farmer and was always ready to help other farmers. Sammy loved to work and said he would never retire. He currently worked at A-1 Quality Redi-Mix where he was respected. Sammy was grateful for his job and spoke very highly of his supervisors and his co-workers. Sammy was a role model for kindness and at very young age he helped a stranger who was traveling through Socorro. The stranger's car had broken down, Sammy fixed it, and the stranger was able to continue his trip. The stranger wrote to the local newspaper commending the young man who helped him and the article was published in the local newspaper. Sammy loved his neighbors and had many friends. He spoke positively about everyone. He thanked God every day of his life and said that heaven was here on earth if we just looked around and saw the beauty of life. He prayed for everyone every day, the living and the dead. Sammy was an inspiration. Sammy was more than our brother and uncle; he was our angel. Sammy was a kind, humble, wonderful and generous person who brought joy and love into our lives. Sammy was always willing to drop anything to help in any way he could. Sammy was one of a kind and can never be replaced. We can never thank our brother and uncle enough in life and in eternity. We are forever grateful. We love you Sammy, our beloved brother and uncle, and we will never forget you! May you rest in peace with God in heaven. God Bless You! Services for Sammy will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro, New Mexico. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, followed by a rosary at 10:30 am, followed by the mass at 11:00 am. Sammy will then be placed to rest at the Old San Miguel Cemetery next to his mom, dad brothers, and sister immediately following the mass.
