From chicken, to pork, to beef and different temperatures in between, here’s a list of five Albuquerque restaurants that are known for their green chile stew.

Frontier Restaurant

This down-to-earth counter-serve restaurant has offered homestyle Southwestern fare since 1971. Located near UNM, this college staple hangout happens to be home to some very flavorful green chile stew. Guests enjoy it atop breakfast, lunch, and dinner dishes. It’s not to be missed.

Owl Cafe

This 50’s-styled roadside stop is housed in a giant owl-shaped building serving breakfast as well as burgers, malts and fries. Their Owl Burger is made famous by the addition of some very delicious green chile stew. Order the stew on its own or as part of any of Owl’s delicious dishes.

Cecilia’s Cafe

Cecilia’s serves up traditional New Mexico fare in a simple, welcoming space. Known as a downtown gem, customers love their basic take on authentic, flavorful dishes.

A customer review: “Love this place- awesome ambiance and delicious food. The restaurant is a remodeled house, and it feels really homey without being cramped. The food is really solid and delicious. I went here for lunch and had the green chile stew which was a little light but delicious, and some of my other's stuffed sopapilla which was absolutely delicious.”

Indian Pueblo Kitchen

Located inside the Indian Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, the acclaimed Indian Pueblo Kitchen offers guests an unforgettable Indigenous dining experience. This Native American restaurant is known for its hearty, comforting, and authentic dishes - including green chile stew.

Cocina Azul

Visit one of their Albuquerque locations for a new take on green chili stew. Cocina Azul serves up a hearty version of green chile stew - substituting pork for steak with potatoes, and served with a sopapilla.

A customer review: “We stopped here on a roadtrip because we wanted New Mexico chili, and we were not disappointed. We shared salsas and the flour queso bowl. I then had the green chile stew and my buddy had the brisket burrito. All of it was superb! Friendly staff, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere.”
