The notorious S-curve stretch of Interstate 25 in Albuquerque will be the topic of a public meeting this evening as transportation officials look at ways to improve safety and traffic flow in the area.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration will host the meeting from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth SW.

The I-25 S-Curve Area Study underway focuses on the interstate between Avenida Cesar Chavez and Lomas.

“We have heard from the public their travel concerns in this stretch of I-25 and want to take a new look at the S-curve and if it should be straightened out. It has been a priority for the district, and we are glad the study is kicking off,” state DOT District 3 Engineer Justin Gibson said in a news release. “The goal of the public meeting is to gather the public’s input on the Purpose & Need (or the reason for improvements) and other factors to be considered, including the alignment of I-25 and nonmotorized transportation options like walking and biking.”

The project website is at i25scurve.com. The public comment period will be open through Dec. 17.

Along with attending the meeting, comments can be made by emailing the study team at study@i25scurve.com; through the study website via a survey or comment form; and calling the project hotline at 505-600-2232.

If you can’t attend the meeting, all materials will be posted to the study website starting Thursday after the meeting.
