Festivals, fiestas and fun: 7 events for this weekend
Summer is starting to come to an end, but it’s not going quietly. This weekend is chock-full of events. Sunflowers, tomatoes, brews and music, along with a side of locomotive history. The hard part will be trying to choose.

1Full steam ahead
The AT&SF 2926 locomotive is hitting the rails for its second voyage to Tractor Brewing Company’s Wells Park location for a fundraiser event. The train will be on view from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, with Tractor opening its doors at noon. There will also be live music. Tractor Brewing is located at 1800 Fourth St. NW.
2Sunny celebration
The Manzano Mountain Art Council is hosting the Mountainair Sunflower Festival. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, this free art festival in Mountainair features art vendors, entertainment, kids’ games and activities, live music, a sunflower hat contest and more. 3To-may-to, to-mah-to
The Albuquerque Garden Center is hosting the Albuquerque Tomato Fiesta from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. Enjoy tomato tasting, garden tours, kids’ activities, live music and more. Tickets are $5, with kids under 12 free. The Albuquerque Garden Center is located at 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE.
4Summer shuffle
Take a walk, jog or run through the Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque with the Sunflower Run. Starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, with distances of 5K and 10K, the run is a 21+ over event. The starting line will be at Taft Middle School, 620 Schulte Road NW. Registration is $58 at irunfit.org, and there will be race-day registration on site.
5Brews news
The Mountain West Brew Fest is returning to Bernalillo from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. Local New Mexico breweries, wineries, cider, spirit and food vendors will be on site, along with live music. Tickets run $5-$15, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. Loretto Park is located at 237 S. Camino del Pueblo in Bernalillo.
6For the community
Jimmy Climbs is coming to the Tijeras BioZone Open Space for a free community concert. The event starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, with face painting, rock climbing wall and more, before the music starts at 7:15 p.m. Tijeras BioZone Open Space is located at 15600 Central Ave. SE.
7Soulful sounds
The Santa Fe Soul Festival is bringing its Gospel Concert to the St. Francis Auditorium at 4 p.m. Sunday Aug. 27, for an afternoon of music, dance and song. Tickets run $15-$125, plus fees, at holdmyticket.com. St. Francis Auditorium is located at 107 E. Palace Ave. in Santa Fe.
