5 things to know before the state fair

The New Mexico State Fair returns Sept. 5 through Sept. 15 at Expo New Mexico. Here are five things you should know before you plan your visit to the fair.

1) On opening day, admission prices will be $2 per person with $2 (per ride) ride tickets for all attendees. From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., food vendors will offer one regular menu item for $5.

2) Gate 1 on Central has parking available for $10.00 from Monday through Thursday and $20.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Gate 8 on Louisiana offers ample parking but fills quickly. Parking for Gate 8 is $10.00.

Handicap parking is best accessible at Gate 1. Gate 8 handicap access is limited with inclined tunnel access into the Fair. Handicap parking is available if you have a handicap placard and the placard holder is in the vehicle. Parking in the Fair West community on the west side of the fairgrounds is prohibited.

Fair-goers can drop off option and be dropped off or picked up at a special drop off gate off of California and Domingo. This gate will be a special entrance only for those utilizing rideshare options.

3) Law Enforcement day will be opening day and all New Mexico law enforcement officers with a valid I.D. will receive a free ticket.

4) Deadly weapons, outside food or drinks are not allowed, with some exceptions. Baby formula is allowed, along with certain other exceptions for individuals with medical and special needs.

You may bring sealed plastic water bottles, one per person, that can be filled utilizing water fountains located throughout the fairgrounds. Smoking is permitted in certain areas. Service animals are allowed.
